Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral

Moon Snail Shell  (three views)

Idea for a Garnished Turnip

When I was growing up, my dad would say, when we asked him a question, "Is it animal, vegetable, or mineral?"  So here is a "vegetable" - a turnip that I decided to embellish, and a "mineral" - a moon snail shell from my scientific illustration days.  (So now I can say, "animal, vegetable, mineral" in my tags :) )

  1. I love that turnip! I don't know if I'd like real turnips but I like yours. The shells are beautiful in their softness. You can do quite the variety of styles. It's fun to see what you'll come up with next.

  2. Gosh, I saw the thumbnail of that snail shell on my blog list and it really grabbed my attention...so beautiful! I'd never heard of coquille board, but googled it and learned that it's the preferred material for scientific illustration. I must try some! (And how apropos that coquille means scallop or shell, I think.)
