Mesmerizing Rodent

For Illustration Friday-- "Mesmerizing"
Got a busy week coming up, so here's another one pulled up from my files. Did this a couple of years ago. The title (stating the obvious): "The Mouse King."
 I think he has a fairly mesmerizing gaze...for a mouse ;)

  15. I'd agree! Wonderful illustration. Great expression, and I really like the detail. The balanced composition is perfect for a king, who really is a king, despite his small size.

  17. There is a story there. "Mouse" and "regal" don't usually jive in the same sentence. This mouse reminds me of an elf-lord!

So nice to meet you last week. Here's to all good things this year. Squeak, squeak!

  36. Firstly, I am so sorry to see that this is a KING and not a PRINCESS. I've seen the thumbnail, quite a few times and it has fascinated me as much as the half-skinned dog. The reason that I wish that it was a she is because I have had "Froggy went a courtin'" in my head for several weeks, now. I've been working on a photographic frog mosaic and I was hoping that you had the mousy counterpart - the mousey that froggy was a-courtin'. Rats!

So, don't mind me, I'll get over it and I do love the illustration.=] I'm sleepy and frozen, at the moment - I've been outside, all morning, in the very damp and cold fog for hours and I thought of you - I really did. The browned ferns and 'gone to seed' wildflowers - the brown cattails, the almost dead apple tree covered in dew laced spiders' webs... It's brownie and pixie country for sure - complicated, miniature and magical. But, I can only feel it. I know there's a story - I know that there's child's magic in it but I can only feel and don't know how to express it beyond my literal photographs. I thought of you. You know how to get it down on paper and I wished that I could ask for your thoughts! Perhaps, it's even that you have special eyes (or glasses!) that can, actually, see it and I can only perceive it.=]

So, I send my passing thoughts, brewing in the back of my mind, across the country to you, this still foggy, muted, goosebump morning and hope that you have just the space of time that you need, this month, to get everything done in an enjoyable way!

    Love,

    Katy Noelle

  38. What a great expression! I get lost in the depths of the jewels, and wander off wondering where he's snagged them - what they were before they became his royal jewels.
