Shiny

Illustration Friday this week: "Shiny"
Here's one I dusted off that I think fits the bill...or beak, as the case may be ;)
...a missed meal due to a shiny distraction:

  1. This bird could be a cousin to the ravens who used to roll pebbles from the ridge pole of our roof...

  2. So we all are when it comes to shiny things. Aren't we all such funny animals?

  6. Hello Elizabeth:
Thwarted indeed!! But what is so remarkable here is the way in which you have captured that sleek, glossy, almost oily, appearance of the bird's feathers. We very much hope that you will 'dust off' a few more to show!!

  12. If the shiny thing is a fruit (grape?) it's perhaps a bigger meal than the fly. Birds are clever.
As always, a brilliant (in every sense of the word) illustration.

  17. Wonderful, iridescent wings! Wow! And the feet are terrific! Beautiful bird all around. And the bug is really great, like a scientific drawing. Super great.

  23. It's probably a good thing there was a shiny distraction...that meal would have had quite the sting!

  25. I like that. Dusted off. I might have to steal that for some of my previously published art files. And you haven't lost your marbles. This is a beautiful piece.

  26. 'Tis no small feat to relay a maxim with such clarity but without the advantage of articulation.

Lizzie, you are a storyteller whose language is imagery. Duly impressed, my friend.

  27. It's so cool how you can go from your loose Henni style to a tightly rendered style ... or did it take you years to get 'loose'? The iridescent colors are terrific – they really pop off the feathers. Just like the bird, I'm drawn to the brilliant light shining through the marble. (ooo pretty! What bee?) Also, I like the echo of shape and highlight in the bird's eye. Really nice piece, Elizabeth!

  28. LOVE the vibrant colors in this one! Oddly enough, I find marbles rather fascinating too!

  29. Really beautiful piece! And such a clever interpretation of the prompt!

  30. That marble looks MUCH tastier than the nutritious insect... I believe blue boy knows exactly what he's doing....

but then, don't we all do the same thing?

  31. Oh imagine if this poor fellow had internet access! He'd never eat again! Death by distraction-starvation... (Come to think of it, I've missed a few meals browsing art blogs myself!)

Beautiful drawing with all sorts of possible interpretations...

  33. Beautiful. Just lovely.

Speaking of dusting off old images, I have the "squirrel version" of this idea.
I might share another time. ;-)

    Best to you

  40. I love the hidden colors of grackles. From one angle they look like a dull black and then the light hits them just right and they're really beautiful! Your image caught your bird at his most colorful moment. Fantastic illustration!
