Sharkman Yields

The Illustration Friday topic this week is "Yield."
I haven't a clue. So here's a little nonsense.
Maybe this doodle will yield up some interesting comments?

  1. "The boat is sinking alright, and there will surely be swimmers in the water... Should I give in to my primitive inner shark and join the feeding frenzy??... NO! I will NOT! Such foolishness is beneath me. ...besides, raw meat is gross. yuck".

  2. I have no idea either! But I do love this doodle.

  3. As he gazed silently out to sea, watching their little bobbing heads in those colorful life vests... this land-shark was standing firm in his convictions... 'Talk to the Hand' he said...

  4. "I WILL yield to my true inner shark and devour every living thing that dives off that boat. The air does feel a little nippy though".

  5. Hello Elizabeth:
We love it for the inspirational connection between the tie, the socks, and the far off sailing boat yielding so much to the imagination!

    1. It's the socks that appeal to me too.

Great illustration and I think he is about to yield to temptation.

  6. Your shark man knows something we don't.
I really like red and white socks myself.

  7. Waldo/Wally is determined not to be found this time... "He went THAT way!", says the muffled voice of the 'Shark-Man'... ;)

  8. I think Sharkman gives us pause (trying to figure him out)--therefore, a success for the word yield!

  9. "Mom, can I go in the water now? It's been an hour since I devoured my last boatful of people. And see? There's another juicy nugget just waiting. I need some help getting my socks off though. Oh wait, they're painted on."

  10. L, I love a shark with a tie that reminds me of a old-tyme soda straws.

  11. It seems to me this shark person is dressed up like a schoolboy which begs the question - has he escaped from class for a day of truancy? Or perhaps the rest of the class is off screen listening to a scintillating lecture on the properties of beach sand or the science of tides. Is he pointing toward the sea or raising his hand to ask a question about the lifecycle of the briny starfish? In fact I think he's raising his hand to ask if there is a bathroom nearby. So says his hesitant posture and slightly troubled expression.

  15. The well-healed shark called out to the tiny vessel,
"excuse me, sir,...would you happen to have any Grey Poupon?"

  16. Everytime he went to the beach in his striped socks, Jacques had the strange impression of hovering letters that followed him. Knowing that the tiny pirates were watching, he didn't yield to the urge to turn around and look.

  19. The shark is commanding the boat to come to shore for a dinner date as he cannot swim yet and he would hate to get his clothes wet and sandy. Great illustration Elizabeth!

  20. Perhaps, he's considering wearing the sail as a cape?

  21. This immediately appeared to me to be a twisted version of "The Little Mermaid"...he's stuck on he shore with legs instead of fins...maybe a princess will rescue him?

  22. Heh, I can see a pattern emerging in your work. That pattern is : intelligence, a great sense of humour, quirkyness, and economy. I should have guessed when I first saw your banner. Oddly enough I was having a surf yesterday by myself at a place where a surfer was attacked about two months ago. The shark bit off one buttock and the top of his leg - scary.

I really like the pig illustration. It's so, so ... just fun!!

    see you

  24. I saw this a couple of days ago, when you first posted it but haven't quite come up with a narration. I've had tremendous fun reading everyone else's suggestions, though!!! =D

Oddly enough, my middle son (who is sitting right next to me, at the moment), drew a shark, the other night when we were out to dinner (at the ice cream parlour, no less =]). He drew a shark with a big huge wide open mouth and little fins on other side of his mouth. Dad was trying to explain that this wasn't anatomically correct but we knew that it was simply a matter of him having a HUBUNGOUS big mouth that reached down to his belly button. He was pretty cute for a shark!

What I'm enjoying about your illustrations is the arrested moment - the moment when everything pauses. The ripe moment, just before....who knows what - we can only imagine. and, you do that consciously, then? =] You're making me think but, now, I'm getting embarrassed by my long comment so I'll just stop, now.
