Haha, so great! All those bright red accents really stand out, including (perhaps?) hilarious red slippers on the feet of the spectre! I do have some concern for the little fellow at the end of the line. Someone tell him to stop looking back! It slows you down!
You know, they do kinda look like they're saying, "Yay, let's go to that party!!" Though Death's overall posture does seem to say, "Sigh, this always happens when I show up".
Art is long life is short....very cool quote.. This masterpiece of course, following a long history of famous artworks reminding us all of the inevitable! Didn't they realise this guy just wants to cut some hay!
I'm running. I'm off the page already. Nice to see who's behind me though...apart from that last one. Make him stop, Elizabeth - you have the power in your hands! Axxx
Love it. 1st guy in line - " Follow me... we can hide in there." 2nd guy in line - " I'm right behind ya!" 3rd guy in line - " Ohdear, ohdear, ohdear." 4th guy in line - " Uh oh." Love the lizzard guy in the pin stripe suit!
Yikes! That's scary and hilarious at the same time! i love that every character has it's own way to hurry away an those outfits are supercool. He dots and stripes add extra contrast to the darkness. I love it!
I love that you somehow combine the humorous and the macabre (a la Edward Gorey, but with a bit more fun with color)and can even be philosophical to boot! Well done!
Ha Ha, very true! I could run like these people for much less! Congratulations on the book, very good news! Thank you very much for your nice comment! :)
Dear Elizabeth, I've just designed with great care an Invisible Award, in short the I-Award, and I just awarded you. I hope you love it as much as I do. Cheerio. Paula
WOOOOO! Better run, all 'a y'all!!!!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC my dear Elizabeth! How I love the mind of an artist!!!
How fabulous to see you my dear and to hear that Henny is keeping you busy with more and more fun illustrations! Thank you so very much for coming my way on your free time. Today is the last day of school and actually my last year of teaching full time. I am going to take a risk and do paper art full time.
Have a spectacular day and soooooooo good to see your art again!! Anita
Oh, I love this -- the lines are so elegant, the colors so well-balanced, and the composition so effective! This is a great blend of visual and emotional elements.
Yikes! And a ha, ha! Is that Hennie's kid brother leading the way? I almost feel sorry for the grim reaper. Every time he appears everyone scatters. Poor guy probably has low self esteem. Maybe if he exchanged his costume for something a tad more contemporary, like a clown suit. Oh wait. Clowns are pretty scary too. This is seriously funny work, Elizabeth! I like that you showed the reason for such a hurry.
oh yes i’d be hurryintg too! nice to see all your work again, i have missed tons while i was away!! That dash of red throughout the illustrations is exquisite.
That isn't Henny under that shroud is it?
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that just about everyone wants to avoid is also the inevitable. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteyes we are all hurry but no one can really escape....

ReplyDeleteHaha, so great! All those bright red accents really stand out, including (perhaps?) hilarious red slippers on the feet of the spectre! I do have some concern for the little fellow at the end of the line. Someone tell him to stop looking back! It slows you down!
ReplyDeletethat would certainly hurry any one up ;)
ReplyDeleteMan, I LOVE this piece! Curious if you'd ever consider selling some of your work? Seems you could make some decent scratch on the side...
ReplyDeletethis is seriously hilarious (and a little bit scary) heheh
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! I feel like the little guy, looking back, running from the Grim Reaper.
ReplyDeleteEventually he gets us all! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know, they do kinda look like they're saying, "Yay, let's go to that party!!" Though Death's overall posture does seem to say, "Sigh, this always happens when I show up".
ReplyDeleteha ha. Nicely drawn!
ReplyDeleteI love this! hehe :D
ReplyDeleteNot sure whether funny or scary - maybe optimistic? I love the drawing with the little spots of red.
ReplyDeleteYep, that would do it. This is too good.
ReplyDeleteHey, your comment gave me the idea of drawing a cartoon about a dark ride for cats, too. What makes kitty scared?? hmmmm.
Art is long life is short....very cool quote.. This masterpiece of course, following a long history of famous artworks reminding us all of the inevitable! Didn't they realise this guy just wants to cut some hay!

The flying hat is the funniest and best part of this!! :D
ReplyDeleteThe grim reaper shows no discrimination here! So funny.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the one who said we all know it but can't escape! Yes, I see the grim reaper back there and he is gaining on me. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI hope they're quick, I don't want to see what would happen to them!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, that's really what all our hurrying is about, isn't it? Such a light-hearted rendition of the darkest truth of all-- I love it!
ReplyDeleteYikes! That's scary and hilarious at the same time! i love that every character has it's own way to hurry away an those outfits are supercool. He dots and stripes add extra contrast to the darkness. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWho knew death could be so funny? Always interesting to see how your mind works :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you somehow combine the humorous and the macabre (a la Edward Gorey, but with a bit more fun with color)and can even be philosophical to boot! Well done!

ReplyDeleteYikes, I'd hurry, too! Cute characters...except you-know-who!
ReplyDeleteWow, the 'hand' of Death is so creepy. How do you do it?
