Yep, you're definitely suffering from a serious case of the balloons. But hey, that's more color that I'm used to from you. Made me take a step back when I first saw it. Then I noticed the kitty in the basket, and wasn't sure if it was to elicit an "aww" from me, or make me fear for that cat's life. Heh....great piece!
This one makes me laugh. I guess its because I can see the sense of wonder and awe in the little guy's face, but also the 'what have I gotten myself into' look, that is punctuated by the tiny gondola surrounded by all that sky. This one's begging for a story. Bravo.
Totally agree! With that sweet tilt of the head.... =]
Elizabeth,
I love the tactile feel of this - the colors of the blues the smudges the pencil/crayon(?)it's just a gorgeous illustration!
and, little lost Kitty in a BIG blue sky.... but, it really looks like the heartbeating starts of an adventure!
I've been thinking of you all week - been spending a lot of time in the vicinity of chickens - I don't know if words could completely express what that's like. =/
Katy: I think Kitty will be OK...although he'll have to stay up there for a while, while I come up with a story ;) Btw, I'd love to hear more about the chickens!
I haven't showed this to my daughter yet. She has this thing she does where she gets all high-pitched and squeaky when she sees something that lights up a particular area of neural circuits--I like to think of it as hypersonic appreciation.
I can't wait to let her see this so I can hear it.
The kitten really seems lost way up there in the air. Poor little creature. Will it ever come down again? I like the colours and the contrast between the rainbow colours of the balloon and the cool sky. A lovely illustration.
Oh my gosh! It's teeny teeny tiny tiniest kitten ever, so seriously cute. Love the balloon! And the trailing string which shows it really moving along. And I love that cloud! That is a great cloud. Of course there's a happy ending, after an extremely thrilling adventure.
Aww! Poor kitty! (What is it with cats, anyway? Always getting lost!) Love the vibrant colors and the way you've rendered the sky! And I love how the cat is like a little added bonus that you don't notice at first!
Looks truly lost..... Wait! There it is...hovering over our garden.. Hang on....it is landing...gotta run to Kitty...poor thing it is very hungry and thristy. Dear me..Elisabeth, now I have a kitten here.
It's an adventure, right? There's going to be a happy ending? Yellow brick road or back home in time for tea? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm afraid Kitty is lost...so I'm not sure he'll be back in time :(
DeleteBut I'm sure he'll be OK :)

ReplyDeleteHopefully, both! Thanks! PS I'm confident my balloon affliction will soon pass.
DeleteWheeeeeeeee!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robin!!!!!!!
DeletePoor lost kitty. Great ride, though!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he'll land safely. I'm not sure he's enjoying the ride, though ;)

Love the color! But...aw, is that a kitty in the basket? Hope he's ok!
ReplyDeleteYup. That's a kitty--lost in a most unconventional way ;)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I just love the 'mood' you have created with this drawing -- a combination of 'The Snowman' and "Le Petit Prince"!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful compliment! Thank you!!
DeleteI know... he just saw a balloon in the back garden and jumped in it to escape the dog!
ReplyDeleteRod...how did you know?
DeleteIt's summer holidays! I mean, the colours, the sensation.. it's all very summer-ish! So refreshing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tristania! Good thing it IS summer...lest Kitty get cold!
DeleteLove the balloon, am worried about kitty...from the title, this was not an intentional trip, was it? Axx
ReplyDeleteGlad you like, Annie. As for Kitty...yes... he's lost. Oh well.

Poor kitty, I hope that everything will be good for him! Very nice and colorful, what colors you used for this illustration?

I want a full report :)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! What goes up, must come down...I'm sure he'll land OK :)
DeleteAwww! I'm worried! What's he doin' up there?? At least he looks great doing it in your beautiful, colorful illustration. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Laurie. Kitty, I think, has no idea how he got there--other than, well, we all know cats like baskets ;)
DeleteReally love the colors and textures- smudges, beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteAnd Awwww for the Kitty. :-)
Thanks, Lisa. Kitty appreciates the "Awwwww."
DeleteLove his little paws, hanging on to the basket.
ReplyDeleteGlad you noticed them, Pia. I was worried that they wouldn't show up very well.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Up and away he goes...!!
ReplyDelete...and to where...nobody knows!!
DeleteThat big, beautiful, colorful balloon tells me this is going to be a memorable adventure through the clouds. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think you are right, Jayne...and Kitty is hanging on for dear life!
DeleteOh my gosh! It's teeny teeny tiny tiniest kitten ever, so seriously cute. Love the balloon! And the trailing string which shows it really moving along. And I love that cloud! That is a great cloud. Of course there's a happy ending, after an extremely thrilling adventure.

ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing him, Mit! Yes, cats always seem to get into trouble. I think they are closely related to monkeys, actually ;)
DeleteThe little guy may be lost, but he seems all set for whatever comes next. Great feel to this.
ReplyDeleteThanks. He's hangin' on for the ride of his life! Glad you stopped by :)
DeleteWhat a bright vibrant illustration, love it, hope kitty makes it home safe and enjoys the ride :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amanda! I think Kitty will be fine--he's hanging on pretty tight!
Deletesometimes i wish i could just hop on a balloon and fly away... maybe little kitty will fly by my window and we can go on an adventure?
ReplyDeletex sandra
What a GREAT idea! I'm ready to go, too! Thanks, Sandra!
DeleteLooks like little kitty's taking in the views and enjoying them immensely! I wonder where kitty's going to end up landing...such an adventure!!!
ReplyDeletexo J~
Hopefully Kitty will end up back where he started. Meanwhile, I hope he doesn't land anywhere near Abby...that could go badly, I think ;)
DeletePerfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ellen!
DeleteLooks truly lost.....
