Act Natural

Greetings!
I haven't been in Blogland lately due to having been sucked into the unanticipated vortex that is the world of O-My-Gosh-I-Have-A-Book-Published! I most certainly am not complaining, but I am dismayed at having neglected my blog friends--both followed and following!

So in an attempt to catch up just a bit, I going to try and kill a few birds with one stone, so to speak (not to worry, Henny, it's just a turn of phrase ;))

First up is this week's post for Illustration Friday's topic, "Natural." I can't help but show this spread from Henny, since she does try so very hard to do so . . .

Now for some book shenanigans:

Henny and I have had much excitement since her release in early January. At every turn, there seems to be more and more to do!
Here are some highlights:

--Henny and I were thrilled to be featured on Julie Danielson's blog, Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast. Have a click and you can see some of my daily sketchbook work, as well as some crowing about Henny :)

--Being asked to be interviewed by The Busy Librarian, Matthew Winner, on his "Let's Get Busy"  podcast. If you have a minute or two, give a listen. Matthew is a wonderful interviewer and die-hard advocate for kidlit! You can find Henny and me on Episode #37  .

--I was asked to serve on a panel for an American Librarian Association's Booklist Webinar featuring four debut authors (This involved a 10 minute talk with a PowerPoint presentation. Yikes!).

--I was honored to be asked to be a "SCBWI Success Story" panelist at our recent SCBWIWWA conference. The conference, as usual, was a blast!

--Having story time and book-signing gigs at the following fabulous independent bookstores:
Parkplace Books   Kirkland WA
Green Bean Books Portland OR
Dolphin Books Port Washington NY

This is the adorable diorama made in honor of Henny by the wonderful booksellers at
Green Bean Books in Portland, OR!

Henny in the window at The Corner Bookstore in Manhattan!

Next up: Henny and I are so honored to have been invited to The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art for their Special Storytime!! We will be winging our to Amherst, MA on May 3rd at 2 p.m., so if you are in the area, stop by and say hello!  Here are the details: http://www.hbook.com/calendar/elizabeth-rose-stanton-carle-museum/#_

There's much more coming up, but I'll save it for another post--which I will do soon!
Meanwhile, I'm working away at my next book, Peddles, so stay tuned for updates!

Thanks, as ever, for stopping by. I appreciate you all!
Cheers!

  1. Peddles is a pig I'm thinking. Did I tell you about my sister-in-law? She built a small greenhouse next to the pig pen and got in the habit of showering the pigs every morning. When the pigs became bacon she swore to never get that attached again.
(This is the same SIL I sent Henny to.) I love that my kids were able to grow up with a working family farm in their lives. Daughter's UW professor didn't believe any more existed until she told him all about her Uncle and his brothers and cousins.

  2. ELIZABETH!!!!!!! LOOK AT THAT STORE WINDOW! THat is a dream, a total dream for any writer, to see their work strewn across an entire BOOKSTORW WINDOW! Bravo to you and Henny; you have both worked so hard! Though I do not have a book published, I am finally published in a magazine for which I am now a contributing writer. It is a new, in-print magazine that is evolving more into a publication about artists, their work and inspirations. So I know what you mean about having to split your time with your blog and all the other obligations!

Congratulations my friend, and than you for coming to visit today! I also saw your new post pop up in my email and was thrilled to see you posted.

Revel in the spotlight and afterglow of this grand success! Anita

    1. Thanks, S.!! I adore that diorama! The best part of the window of the Corner Bookstore was that, after the signing, it was empty :)

  11. You are on the way up! Thanks for hopping over to my blog on Easter. And I think we all feel like an armed chick sometimes. That is funny.

  12. I suspect that at any moment, Henny will say, "The heck with it," and sit down with knife and fork for a more civilized way to eat a meal.

Oooooh, you are so fantastic! So much excitement and well deserved celebrations for you and Henny. Hooray! You've been quite busy, and that's a wonderful thing.

  13. WooHoo! Glad to see that you're still around, and all of this news has me just a tad excited. Congrats on all you've accomplished! I'm sure it's all been a whirlwind of activity, and hopefully you'll be able to settle down soon and.....publish your next book! Tyler and I have been enjoying Henny. It's been one of our "go to" books for nighttime reading. I've a picture of us reading it and hope to publish it soon on my blog.

Anyway, thanks for not remaining a stranger to us loyal blog readers! :-)

My "marching orders" for Peddles will be coming any day now (I just turned in the second set of revisions). Thanks for all the good wishes, E. !! Henny sends hugs to Tyler!
