Illustration Friday - "Shadow"

Am posting a concept sketch from a page of a picture book I am working on, since there's a little bit of shadow drama going on.  The story is in verse, and deals with the classic "there's something-under-the-bed" dilemma that all kids face at one time or another [I still worry about it sometimes ;) ]. The Thing has just lumbered out from under the bed, at the brave insistence of the little hero of the story... Hopefully the book will eventually be published, so you can find out what happens next :)
 Wish I had time for a new creation for the topic, but what with the in-laws coming, two birthdays, and two graduations this week (plus construction going on...)--well...this will have to do for now.

    Hello Elizabeth:
    He, The Thing, is absolutely wonderful and has, as you have said, emerged from under the bed not at all scary but, unexpectedly, looking very downcast, sheepish, uncertain, almost on the point of tears.

    In the meantime, it would appear that you have the most hectic of weeks coming up. God luck with it all!!

    I truly love this. My granddaughters are still afraid of the monsters. I've given them worry dolls and told them their family ghost (yeah, they think they have a ghost or at least they think they think they might have one) is really a fairy. What they need is this! To see that the monster is cuddly and scared and lonely! Super! When is the book coming out? Hopefully before the girls are 21.

    oh... i am in love with your under the bed creature ( won't call him a monster...) he is trembling and looking like he needs some lovin..
    So lovely the drawing and the writing and the background line in particular! Love it so much! Happy you didn't have time for a new one, this one is just perfect!

    What a fabulous character and rhyme! I love that his scary hand that might creep out from under the bed is just a prop. OHHH and I just looked more closely. Rent a claw! Too funny! More more more! Give us MORE!
