OK, so I haven't lost my mind (well, I suppose one could debate this), but...Halloween IS coming, after all.
Seriously, I have been having a devilishly good time doing some of the art work for this journal.
I promise I will get back to chickens and frogs...soon ;)

Congratulations! staring at her gives me the creeps :) great!
ReplyDeleteHello Elizabeth:
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, dear Elizabeth, how delighted we are that you have won this award. Could anyone have created creatures any creepier, any scarier, any more gruesome or any more terrifying......we think not!!!!!Such a worthy winner.
For us, it is those fine details that sets your work in a class of its own. Today's illustration with its blackened eyeball sockets, just the hint of blood on the white gown, the vicious teeth and the spider web veil has all the elements for a really scary image as well as showing the elegant sparcity of line that you use to convey such powerful emotions.
Under the Juniper Tree has pinned its star to an illustrious illustrator. Hooray!!!!
At our house Harpies refer to vapid, buxom and bottle blond cheerleader types who used to populate my Daughter and Emergency Back-Up Daughter #2's high school classrooms. This is probably 100 years in their future when they are living off the blood of the current crop.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Elizabeth. You deserve the prize.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Elizabeth! Your mind does seem to be a black as their hearts! LOL (I mean that in the nicest of ways of course!)
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely teeth you have my dear!
ReplyDeleteAh well... Congratulations Elizabeth.
Linda

ReplyDeleteYOU are so good. SOOOOOO GOOD! And you do know that Tea Rat, the fellow I illustrate, ALSO LOVES WEARING WELLIES!!!! Green is his favorite color, while Rattus prefers slippers!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening dearest...and please, keep drawing whatever comes to mind! Anita
Congratulations! This is sufficiently creepy, but somehow tender all at once.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Elizabeth, a well deserved win!! I have some serious chills going on right now after seeing Miss. Harpy...have to keep looking at little Fen Hen to ward them off!
ReplyDeletexo J~
This is COOL. Congratulations with this "ridiculously creepy and beautiful" illustration! (But I like the crazy chickens as well!! ) :D
ReplyDeleteWow!, really creepy that vampire. Congratulations Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, it was well deserved, very chilling!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You are the best in creating creepy stuuf ;-) And I love all your work: chickens, frogs, scary old ladies, whatever!
ReplyDeleteNow, I've been all interrupted by Hurricane Irene and another, personal, hurricane and I've woken up to find that time has passed. A miniature Rip Van Winkle, am I.
ReplyDeleteSchool was delayed for eight days. I just couldn't figure out why it was still summer vacation (August) and so cold but, no! It's September and it is windy and cold and raining, again and the woods look very timeworn, indeed, and, now, that I've been here, I feel like we need hot apple cider and more scary stories. Halloween, indeed!
Oh, so, er.....ummmmm....."pleasant" to catch up, today. ;)

Well, kudos right back at ya, Elizabeth! I'm so glad you brought Juniper Tree to my attention. I do love all of the adorable children's art out there, but this is a refreshing twist! Love that your illustration won. And by the way, that "mysterious" piece is wonderful...and I hope that there IS a story in there, because I want to hear it!
ReplyDeleteof she freaks me out... i guess that was the point!
ReplyDeleteexcellent work, and congratulations :)
xo sandra
elizabeth thank you, considering your work is cool i am so honored!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a nice day :D

Lizzy, you are extremely talented. You've managed to marry the delicate with the horrible in an exquisite fashion. I can see that you are exulting in it. I recognize an artist who has tapped into *that* space within herself. Your work is unique.
ReplyDeleteTo say the least.
God, this is so stark and scary. Could easily be a take on one of Nosferatu's daughters. Think I'll take up flower arranging after looking at this lot. Congratulations once again on winning the award with UTJT. They clearly have very good bad taste.
ReplyDeletecongratulations!!! and ooooh, he is scary but lovely at the same time!!!!
