October is COVERED!

I have had the great honor of having my illustration selected as this month's cover for the kid lit magazine
Underneath the Juniper Tree.  I hope you have fun reading this scary, gory, and irreverently fun literary magazine.  Aslo, be sure and look for a couple of Teddy limericks (p. 117), and an illustration for a story called, "Bedtime,"
(p. 83).
Enjoy...if you dare ;)

  1. In Artichokistan we do not have Halloween, so I do not have much affinity with it.

But we have woman that sits every night on de side of the bed...... Actually she looks almost the same as on your drawing. Bedtime is great illustration.

  8. fat roots, some of these pumpkins have. Pretty pale, though, is that why this pumpkin scowls? Was it left sitting on the soil too long?

  25. Yea, you!!!

When my son was two, my husband carved a giant pumpkin to wear on his head. He lit it from inside and draped the rest of himself in orange sheets and real vines. The trick-or-treaters loved having the Great Pumpkin answer the door and his little sidekick always went with him. Unfortunately, my husband had lost his lower peripheral vision from inside the pumpkin and failed to see my son slip out the door to join a group of kids. It was several minutes before we discovered he was missing (thought he'd gone to his room to get toys), and several more terrifying minutes on the street before an observant mom brought our little guy home.

Your pumpkin-headed creature carries just the right sinister mood to match my recollection of that Halloween.

  26. Hey, congratulations on that cover, and it works really well with the whole cover layout. It's got that wonderfully nostalgic feel to it, not the modern made-in-china Halloween we've come to know.

Thanks for stopping by. I have discovered your magic!
