The Illustration Friday topic this week is "suspend."
I seem to be into balloons this week (he borrowed them from Henny)   ;)

    1. I think it's more of a coloring-in-the-balloons fetish ;) It's very zen ;)

    2. uuhmm, I object to that. Just because it rhymes does not make it true. Nothing like a hen with red watttles to share a few bottles!

  8. How lovely, Elizabeth. I love the idea that you draw balloons because you like to colour them in - I can see the attraction. He looks very contented and not a bit concerned, floating off like this!

  9. BALLOONS ARE A GOOD THING for both man and beast!!!!!!! I always seem to draw a balloon on a subject, no matter what! My husband insisted that I make cards out of a Sealyham terrier that I drew; he has a red balloon tied around his waist! No one seems to want them though....teeeheee...

THANK YOU MY DEAR for coming to visit the belugas, mermaids and white horses that can swim! Anita

I wanted to prove that experience!

  14. This has a lovely dreamy feel - I like the way he's still looking up further into the stratosphere. Colouring the balloons fully and the figure just in a minimalist way is so right, as is the white background. Used as a greeting card, I can think of so many potential phrases for travel, success, dreaming big: it's an image open to so many interpretations.

    1. Funny you should mention it, Sandra. I'm trying to respond on my blog now, since I can't always respond to people via email (some don't list). I hope people won't mind coming back to check, if they are so inclined. I do love getting comments...and I do love responding. Hopefully this works better for everyone (for what it's worth!).
Thanks, as ever, for stopping by (and yes, you are right...Henny likes to hang on to her balloons)!

  27. I love the swish of the tie and the flow of his body. The whole defying gravity via balloons allows for some interesting fluidity to what ever they carry. Lovely!

  28. He's suspended in such a dreamy & relaxing state of tranquility...maybe Henny wouldn't mind letting me borrow her balloons when he's done with them...I sure could use a dose of suspended tranquility!!! Plus, we are having fantasically 'grand' balloon soaring weather, be a shame to waste in by staying on the ground!

  32. And where is this fine fellow off to on such a day, I wonder. From your comments I take it that landing plans have not made, so I hope he can hang on until he gently loses altitude and floats to the ground (in some magical place, if he is lucky)! He seems so serene and content to simply fly along wherever the wind takes him.

Very interesting that you are trying out the whole "answer all the comments" thing! I have wavered on this subject for many moons, but mainly decided that in reply I will go to the blog of the commenter and leave a comment in kind. But you're totally right that some folks do not leave an address I can go visit (for some reason, arrgh). :) I try to directly answer when someone asks a question. Sometimes I get very behind in the visiting, and sometimes I'll spend an afternoon going through all the IF and then my 3 folders worth of art blog links. Eek! (And sometimes I seem to leave a novella on a page, as I have practically done here, oops!) ;)

    1. Hi Cindy! Yes...I think he's heading for a magical landing!
As for the comments, I am still, I think, wavering. I still try and visit other peoples' blogs, since I enjoy them. but you are right in that it can get a little overwhelming when falling behind. So I either have to play massive catch up, or have to let it slide, which I don't like doing. You are one of the most faithful, thoughtful bloggers I know, and I always appreciate your thoughtful (which they always are) comments! Thank you!

  33. I've always wondered how many balloons it would take to lift me up like this and then if it would be scary! This guy doesn't look scared. Maybe red shoes are the key to fearlessness..... Another very charming illustration!

    1. Thanks, Laurie! I suspect he is so fearless because maybe he's not so bright? I think your observation is quite sensible, and I also think one can't go too wrong with red shoes and a bunch of balloons.

  34. I wanna go for a balloon ride too!
This poor guy has been pent up in an office cubicle for the past 7-3/4 years.
I can see the smile beginning to spread across his face.
    I don't think he'll be coming back.
    Yay! Balloons for everyone!

PS Is there any truth in the rumour that Henny gets up early each day in the hope of seeing Russell Crowe?

  42. What everyone above said, I say too. I stopped by awhile back but had nothin. Thought I'd come back later with somethin, but still had nuthin :(

But have you ever read "The 21 Balloons"? That book rocked my ten year old world. I wanted to go live there.

    Okay, that's it, that's all I got.

    1. My dear Ted,
Nuthin is quite OK. I just always appreciate it when you stop by. That being said,
I believe you are psychic (as well as psychokinetically inclined, as evidenced by your last blog post). I put a hold on, two days ago, a copy of "21 Balloons" from the library, since I have never read it. I guess I really do have balloons on the brain of late. Makes no sense to me, but I'm goin' with it. You know how that goes ;)
