4 Robots and a Pig

Did up these little sketches today while thinking about this this week's Illustration Friday topic -- "Robots."
I realized that almost everything I am drawn to draw leans more toward the "organic," so taking on some mechanically-inclined things was fun challenge.  I may just depart from birds, pigs, and monsters for a bit and pursue some more of these little robotic beings.  My interest is piqued!
Oh-- and the pig?  He's just there to keep me grounded ;)

  1. I fully support this exploration (and the pig.) You sound fruitful and stable.

Also, the work is truly brilliant. Your talent -- and the years you have invested in elevating it -- is singular. I mean that.

  3. I like 'em a lot. Esp. the robot on the far right, because he's slightly creepy

  4. YOU are doing exactly what I'm being required to do with poetry: to go outside of what I'm comfortable with. Your robots are just as darling as your piggy, Elizabeth, and I like that you described this porcine prince as someone to keep you "grounded." Until we can swim in unknown waters, there is nothing wrong with wearing a life saver!!!! Darling illustrations. Anita

  5. They look so cheerful and alert. Very nice robots! They obviously do something helpful; disentangle Christmas lights, or remind you where you left your phone/keys/4B pencil or match up socks in the laundry.

    1. Hahaha, Rhissanna! Yes. The one on the lower right is a coat-hanger-detangler. He is VERY useful.

    1. Thanks, Midori! It's a little different thinking "shiny and hard," vs. "soft and squishy" -- but I did want to make the little bots kinda cute.

  7. I really dig the robot on the far left. Reminds me of the game Machinarium (http://machinarium.net/demo/). You should get on their dev team and do their illustrations for their next chapter!

    1. It's funny you should say that. I had a FB friend suggest the same thing--he even photo-shopped the pig on to one of the bot-bottoms. It was pretty amusing.

  12. The organic line is inescapable, and that pig would ground anybody. Love the little inquisitive fellow at the bottom of the page. Wondering what it is that intrigues him so.

  18. 4 Robots and A pig, what a great name for a poem or a book. Ah, your ability to give character to "characters' is amazing. Ballerina's come first to mind :)

  22. You could invent a flying pig, you know as in “and pigs might fly”.

  25. It's like one of those challenges in the old Highlights magazine: Which one doesn't belong? Hmmmm... let's see.... something about the antennae.... yeah that's it, the robot on the bottom only has ONE, and the others have TWO.
Oh WAIT... what's that pig doing in the group... but he does have TWO ears.... I'm going to the back of the magazine to check the answer.
